Seagate Technology (NASDAQ:STX), the world leader in hard disk drives and storage solutions, and Hisense Group, one of China’s largest manufacturers of household appliances, today entered into a collaboration to speed the adoption of the latest SATA Universal Storage Module (USM™) interface in the China market.
The SATA USM specification is a standard specification for accepting a complete, powered external storage device into a consumer electronics device. Modules designed according to the SATA USM specification will enable consumers to instantly access their music, movies, photos and other content from a variety of consumer electronics products, and to seamlessly transfer content between devices.
Seagate and Hisense Group will introduce their first joint product, the Hisense MP802H high definition media player into the China market. The Hisense MP802H HD media player, designed according to the SATA USM specification, incorporates a slot to accept a Seagate® GoFlex® 2.5-inch portable hard drive.
Mr. Wang Zhihao, vice president of Hisense Group said that multimedia entertainment has become an important part of people's lives in China with consumers creating and sharing their digital content across an increasing number of devices from MP3 players, to digital video, digital cameras and smart phones. “With the growth of digital media consumption, hard drives are no longer limited to computers and IT equipment, but have also been widely used in consumer electronics and entertainment systems. With the SATA USM™ interface users can directly use an external storage module to store and share their music, videos and even games,” he said.
As the worldwide leader in hard disk drives and storage solutions, Seagate is working closely with third-party manufacturers in consumer electronic fields to drive the Certified GoFlex Storage System initiative that incorporate slots on their products to support removable GoFlex external hard drives. Seagate Technology’s emphasis on targeting consumer electronics such as digital video recorders, gaming devices, digital music players, and digital cameras has provided consumers with greater flexibility when it comes to consuming, sharing, saving and enjoying their content.
